The Stair Guys: Building Support for Mental Health in Construction

At The Stair Guys, we’re not just crafting quality staircases; we’re constructing a foundation for better mental health in the UK construction industry. Our owners, Scott Jones and Tom Abbott, have personal experiences with mental health challenges, making our commitment to this cause deeply rooted and genuine.
Our Personal Journey
Scott and Tom’s experiences reflect the broader mental health crisis in construction. Scott continues to attend therapy monthly, while Tom found support through Andy’s Man Club. Their journeys underscore the importance of accessible mental health resources in our industry.
The Silent Epidemic in Construction
Recent statistics paint a stark picture of mental health in UK construction:
Our Commitment to Change
We’re taking concrete steps to address this crisis:
- We’re donating £5 for every stair sold from 1 December 2024 to 31 December 2025 to Project 7000 / The Lost City.
- We’re continuing our existing pledge to donate a minimum of £5 from every stair sold to Andy’s Man Club.
- When asked, we’ll donate our time to raise further awareness for this crucial cause.
Why This Matters
The mental health crisis affects not just individual workers, but entire families, communities, and the construction sector as a whole. By supporting initiatives like Project 7000 / The Lost City and Andy’s Man Club, we’re taking a stand against what’s been called the ‘silent epidemic’ in our industry. [1]
